TUMMY TUCK DUBAI (EXTENDED ABDOMINOPLASTY)

Tummy Tuck Dubai – An extended tummy tuck is a complete abdominoplasty plus a lateral thigh lift. The resulting scar runs from the posterior axillary line from side to side. The operation does all of the abdominal contouring of a complete abdominoplasty and allows further improvement of the flank (waist), as well as smoothing the contour of the upper lateral thigh.

Tummy Tuck Dubai – Good Healing

Depends on the problem to be treated, surgical technique(s), and other factors the good healing can take one to four weeks and patients are advised to take at least a portion of this recovery time off from work. Heavy lifting is best avoided during this time. Initially there may be bruising and discomfort.

A supportive abdominal binder or compression garment can minimize swelling / bruising, and support the repaired tissues.

This compression garment is also effective in helping the skin in the treated area conform to its new shape. Full recovery takes 3–6 months, with further fading of scars thereafter. Scars may appear red and prominent at first, but with proper care, they heal into a thin, silvery line.

Tummy Tuck Duration

The hours of a tummy tuck in surgery depends upon the size of the tummy. The average tummy tuck takes approximately 2 hours. Larger panniculectomies can take 3-4 hours depending upon the amount of skin to be removed, contouring of the hips, and the thighs (if necessary).

A full tummy tuck requires a horizontally-oriented incision in the area between the pubic hairline and belly button. The shape and length of the incision will be determined by the amount of excess skin. Once the abdominal skin is lifted, the underlying weakened abdominal muscles are repaired.

Drainage Tubes

Drainage tubes will be placed under the patient’s skin to prevent the accumulation of fluid and to allow the incisions to heal properly, and the patient will be given pain medication to ease discomfort.

Dr. Matteo Vigo is a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) is the world’s leading professional body for board-certified aesthetic plastic surgeons.

Depending on the patient’s aesthetic objective, plastic surgeons will recommend one of the following three types of tummy tucks available:

FULL OR CLASSIC TUMMY TUCKS

Classic tummy tucks (which are also referred to as full tummy tucks) are utilized when individuals want to address the sections above and below their belly button, the full length of the abdominal wall. Patients who opt for a full tummy tuck often want to resolve general roundness and excess skin.

With this procedure, one horizontal or u-shape incision, and possibly a second incision, are made above the pubic area and the belly button, respectively, to remove excess skin and tighten muscle. Full tummy tucks present the most natural-looking outcome, and can include a much firmer abdomen.

MINI TUMMY TUCKS

Mini tummy tucks involve less extensive incisions compared to a full tummy tuck and are intended to improve only the lower belly, below the patient’s belly button. This makes the procedure ideal for people who want to rid their bellies of a “pooch”, tiny bulge or stretch marks in the lower abdominal region only.

Plastic surgeons can tighten loose muscles through a single low horizontal incision (typically without an incision around the belly button), and remove excess lower abdominal skin, resulting in a firmer, smoother lower belly.

EXTENDED TUMMY TUCK

The extended tummy tuck is considered when the goals of the procedure are to address the abdomen while simultaneously targeting the flanks and hips. To perform this procedure, the surgeon extends the horizontal incision more laterally as well as often incorporating a longer, vertical incision, which enables the surgeon to remove excess skin from the upper and lower abdominal region as well as the flanks while tightening the abdominal wall.

This procedure is often ideal for those patients who have had multiple pregnancies or have lost lots of weight, either through diet and exercise or through weight loss surgery.

When it comes to a tummy tuck, I frequently explain to patients that the procedure is not a single surgical step, but rather a series of elements that can be combined to create customized results.

Liposuction

Whereas liposuction focuses solely on removing unwanted fat cells from the body – such as those that create a noticeable bulge at the belly – a tummy tuck is intended to create sleeker contours by addressing any number of conditions that keep the abdomen from looking toned.

Tummy Tuck Dubai – Excess fat

Of course, stubborn pockets of fat are an obvious culprit when it comes to a larger waistline. While liposuction is frequently performed as a standalone procedure, it can also be used as part of a tummy tuck to help flatten the area. For this element, just about everything is handled as it would be for a solo lipo procedure:

Fat is loosened and suctioned out via a cannula. The difference is that while liposuction requires small incisions that are later sutured closed, the incision made for a tummy tuck allows the surgeon access.

Tummy Tuck Dubai – Excess skin

While extra fat causes bulges, extra skin creates a sagging pouch that can hide even well-defined abdominal muscles that sit beneath.

The amount of excess tissue can range from a little to a lot (sometimes referred to as an “apron”). For a tummy tuck, the surgeon essentially re-drapes the abdominal skin so that it sits flat and tight, then trims away the excess. The incision and subsequent sutures for this element are typically hidden lower on the torso, where they can be covered by a swimsuit bottom or underwear.

Tummy Tuck Dubai – Lax muscles

Over time, belly muscles and their covering fascia can become loose. Whereas firm fascia holds everything in place – something like interlaced fingers keeping a water balloon from bulging outward – lax fascia allow the contents behind to bulge outward. Abdominal muscles can separate, giving the entire midsection a flabby look.

During a tummy tuck, a surgeon can, if necessary, stitch these muscles and fascia back together to make everything tight and toned. In some cases, as with a mini-tummy tuck, this may be the primary element of the procedure. It is often chosen by moms who have a small bulge that sits below the belly button.

Tummy Tuck Dubai – Belly button placement

Depending on the tummy tuck details, the surgeon may need to “relocate” the belly button, which involves creating a hole in the newly taut abdominal skin so the navel appears where it should to remain proportional with the rest of the body. This is called “umbilical translocation.”

Following this, the body can be further contoured to encourage an hourglass shape by creating an “internal corset.” I have performed measurements that show narrowing of the waist and improvement of the waistline due to work at this stage.

Incision

When all of the steps are completed, the incision will be closed with either a special glue or absorbable sutures, such that the patient can take a shower the next day and there is no need to remove the sutures. Lasers can be used post-operatively to hasten the healing of scars.

Also, use of Exparel injections numb the abdomen for three days, which can minimize pain for patients.

Every patient has a unique body shape and size

Since every patient has a unique body shape and size, as well as personal goals for an ultimate look, each tummy tuck is its own procedure. While there are commonalities between all such surgeries, no two will be exactly alike.

The most common form of tummy tuck involves a horizontal incision near the pubic hairline, so swimwear or undergarments can hide the resulting scar.

If there is excess skin above the navel, an incision around the navel may be required. Sometimes, the surgery involves liposuction to remove pockets of excess fat from specific areas of the body. To reduce scar tissue and increase the speed of healing, I may utilize a harmonic scalpel that uses ultrasonic energy to perform parts of the tummy tuck surgery.

Diastasis

Diastasis is a term used to describe the separation of the two-paired abdominal muscles that make up the front of the abdomen, which is often caused by multiple pregnancies. Sutures are used to tighten up the abdominal wall, resulting in a flatter stomach. Stronger, tighter abdomen muscles may also help reduce lower back pain.

Weight Loss

A tummy tuck is not a shortcut to weight loss. But, it can be a powerfully transforming surgery and complements the impact that weight loss has on the abdominal profile. Many of our patients say they feel liberated after having a tummy tuck.

They can wear a bikini again, or not wear a shirt or a top to cover up their loose stomach. They feel good about being outdoors running, swimming and golfing.

It does a lot to boost a person’s confidence in their bodies and for many of my patients, it’s an incentive to maintain a healthy appearance for the rest of their lives. For some patients, tighter abdomen muscles may also help reduce lower back pain.

DETERMINE WHICH PROCEDURE IS RIGHT FOR YOU

Deciding which procedure is right for you will be contingent upon several factors and is best done in consultation with an experienced Plastic Surgeon.

Some of them include your desired results, overall skin quality, body type and location of excess skin on the body. The amount of excess skin will also determine which procedure is most appropriate. Finally, any scarring attained from a previous cosmetic procedure or surgery can determine which kind of tuck the patient qualifies for.

RECOVERY

You’ll want to figure out a time frame for your Tummy Tuck Dubai recovery so you have ample time to heal and can take a break from certain aspects of your life. Make sure you make the proper arrangements and are fully prepared for your recovery period.

Your drains will be left in for a few days after the surgery. You’ll be shown how to take care of and empty the drains. You’ll likely need to take an antibiotic and an anticoagulant while your drains are in place.

You’ll wear an abdominal binder for about six weeks. This helps to avoid fluid buildup and helps to support your abdomen.

While the recovery period is usually shorter for a mini-tummy tuck, you’ll still need to avoid strenuous activity for at least six weeks. This includes any vigorous exercise or heavy lifting.

Are you dreaming of a tight, sculpted tummy and hips post pregnancy? Many women struggle to lose weight after giving birth. An extended sculpt tummy tuck Dubai (aka extended VASER lipoabdominoplasty) might be the answer. This is a cutting-edge surgery that gives women the flat, smooth tummy and hips they desire. It is one of the most advanced techniques available for sculpting the body after baby. What is an extended tummy tuck? You might be familiar with a tummy tuck, but an extended tummy tuck is a bit different. An extended tummy tuck is for women who have extra fat and skin that extends around the abdomen to the hips after giving birth. Extended means that there is loose skin and fat on the patient’s sides in addition to the tummy area. Therefore, the incision is longer than a classic tummy tuck, extending around the hips. That way, all of the undesirable skin and fat can be removed in a single operation. Excising skin on the side of the abdomen Full tummy tuck vs. extended tummy tuck: What’s the difference? The difference between a full tummy tuck and an extended tummy tuck is how far the incision goes around the tummy. Since it is a more extensive surgery, it takes about one hour longer to perform an extended tummy tuck than a full tummy tuck. What do we mean by ‘sculpt’? A sculpt tummy tuck means that there is extensive VASER liposculpture in addition to cutting away fat and skin, along with tightening the rectus abdominis muscle if needed. This is an extensive surgery that improves upon the results of a normal tummy tuck by using the latest technology to sculpt and refine the abdomen. A sculpt tummy tuck has 4 benefits VASER liposculpture of the abdomen Loose skin, separated abdominal muscles and unwanted fat on the abdomen and sides can be dramatically improved with this surgery. Removes loose skin Skin removed with tummy tuck Extra loose skin is common due to weight fluctuations from pregnancy. Collagen and elastin in skin break down over time, resulting in thinner, delicate skin that sags. Many women get pregnant around age 30, which is when production of these essential proteins starts declining due to age. When you are pregnant, the skin stretches to accommodate the extra mass. Upon childbirth, the tummy shrinks but the skin has already been stretched. Therefore, it does not ‘snap back’ to where it was before. This causes loose skin and unattractive skin folds, in addition to fat that can be hard to lose after giving birth. Like a classic tummy tuck, a sculpt tummy tuck trims away the extra skin leaving you with a nice, tight tummy. Repairs separated ab muscles Separated muscles diastasis recti Ab muscles can separate or tear due to pregnancy. Also known as diastasis recti, torn or stretched abdominal muscles can cause weakness and pain. The connective tissue at the midline of the abdominal muscles has stretched and loosened by the third trimester. Sometimes, surgery is required to repair it. While the condition is not dangerous, it can make life unpleasant. Diastasis recti causes a stomach bulge in some patients, as well as leaves a visible gap between the ab muscles. It can sometimes be easy to spot that the muscles have separated, particularly in thinner patients. Other women might not notice anything visually wrong at all, but the underlying muscle is still stretched. A tummy tuck can correct this. In a sculpt tummy tuck, Dr. Vigo tightens the abdominal muscles, giving patients a flat tummy and better core support. Removes unwanted fat OT fat canister After pregnancy, there can be stubborn pockets of fat left behind. Diet and exercise do not always remove all the fat. Plus, motherhood makes it hard to find time to get in the gym. There are new cravings as well, and the body goes through dramatic changes during pregnancy. Genetics also play a role since women tend to accumulate fat in specific areas like the lower abdomen and hips. An extended tummy tuck is designed to sculpt and flatten the abdomen and also removes fat on the sides. Smooths and refines the tummy with VASER Liposculpture VASER Lipo is the most important step of the sculpt tummy tuck. This is the step in which Dr. Vigo shapes the tummy and removes fat. VASER is an advanced fat removal technology that gives nice smooth results that are far superior to liposuction in Dr, Vigo’s opinion. He has been using VASER instead of standard liposuction since 2016 with great success, and patients have been loving their results. VASER is different from standard lipo. To start, a small hole is created in the skin. The VASER probe is then inserted and a fan technique is used to work it under the skin, reaching all the underlying fat and melting it. The probe vibrates at an extremely high frequency to melt the fat. Gentle suction then removes the fat from the body. The process is more delicate than basic lipo, which is much more aggressive by comparison. VASER is gentler, yet equally (if not more) effective. Since it causes less tissue damage, it may improve the speed of healing and reduce swelling and trauma. This allows the patient to have a more comfortable recovery and ultra refined smoothness of the skin. Since it is a slower and gentler process than standard lipo, it takes more time to perform the operation. The final result of a sculpt tummy tuck is a flat, attractive tummy with nice, smooth skin. 9 steps to perform the perfect extended full sculpt tummy tuck Dubai These are the 9 steps that it takes to complete the operation: Step 1: Extensive VASER liposuction of the abdomen, waist and hips Step 2: Making the cut and dissecting the underlying tissues Step 3: Creating a tunnel in the midline to access the abdominal muscles Step 4: Stitching (plication) of the rectus abdominis muscles to tighten them and bring them back together Step 5: Tightening the skin as well as lifting the mons pubis area up to where it should be Step 6: Tightening and trimming away loose skin Step 7: Using tissue glue and plication stitches to bring muscles together Step 8: Closing the skin. Drains are not needed with Dr. Vigo’s technique Step 9: Using special PICO dressings to speed wound healing. Recovery and downtime An extended sculpt tummy tuck requires an overnight hospital stay. Day 1 after surgery will leave you feeling a bit groggy from general anesthesia. The first day is not too bad in terms of pain since Dr. Vigo performs the VASER tummy tuck using a powerful local anesthetic to reduce discomfort for the first 24 hours. Discomfort tends to peak on day 2, then gradually subsides over a period of two weeks or so.
A tummy tuck Dubai, known medically as an abdominoplasty, is a plastic surgery procedure where excess skin and fat are removed from the abdomen to achieve a smoother and tighter appearance to the stomach. Who is suitable for a tummy tuck? The best candidate for a tummy tuck is someone who is as close to their ideal weight as possible, in good health and have realistic expectations of what can be achieved with tummy tuck surgery. Tummy tuck Dubai procedures can be performed on both male and female patients as long as they are over the age of 18, there is no upper age limit to a tummy tuck although all patients will be required to have a pre-surgery check up to make sure they are fit and well enough to have elective surgery. Tummy tuck patient examples include: Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and have been left with excess skin in the abdomen area. Patients following pregnancy have had their abdominal muscles and skin stretched resulting in loose skin sitting on the stomach. Patients who have lost weight with diet and exercise but still feel their stomach is not in proportion to the rest of their body, and usually the skin is lacking elasticity to be suitable for liposuction alone. Patients who have previously had a C-section and have retracted scarring. Tummy tucks should not be thought of as a substitute for weight loss or an exercise program. The procedure cannot correct stretch marks, although these may be removed or somewhat improved if they are located on the areas of excess skin that will be treated. How to choose a tummy tuck surgeon The best results from a tummy tuck often come from choosing an expert surgeon. Dr. Vigo advises anyone considering tummy tuck surgery to fully research surgeons to find one that not only will perform tummy tuck surgery safely but also help you achieve the results that you desire. You should be looking for their qualifications, ask how many procedures they have performed, how often they perform the procedure and ask to see their before and after photos and seek out patients that have a similar ‘before’ body to you to see what results to expect. Tummy tuck Dubai procedures should only be carried out by board certified plastic surgeons. Types of tummy tuck There are a variety of different tummy tuck techniques. The one you have will depend on how much skin and fat you need to have removed. Your surgeon will explain the different types and be able to advice on which type they feel is most suitable for you. Full Abdominoplasty: This is known as a full tummy tuck or a standard tummy tuck. It is one of the most commonly performed tummy tuck procedures. It is designed to remove fat, repair any torn muscles and remove any excess skin. A full tummy tuck scar sits along the upper pubic region, your surgeon will usually try to plan it so it will sit in your underwear line so when wearing clothing such as a bikini it should remain concealed. Extended Abdominoplasty: An extended tummy tuck Dubai will not only remove skin and fat from the tummy area but it will also target the excess skin in the flanks, upper hips and lower back regions too. An extended tummy tuck also comes with an extended scar which often stretches around the back of the patient. Mini Abdominoplasty: A mini tummy tuck is best for patients who only have a small amount of tissue between the areas above your pubic region to the tummy button, your stomach may have a crinkly appearance but doesn’t necessarily over-hang. A mini tummy tuck can also still repair the muscles as well as removing excess skin and tightening up the lower part of the tummy. A mini abdominoplasty scar is usually a lot smaller than a full abdominoplasty but this is not always the case, the biggest different in scar is that no scar will be made around the belly button as this section of the stomach is not touched in a mini abdominoplasty. Fleur de lis Abdominoplasty: A fleur de lis tummy tuck is designed to target excess skin from both the upper and lower abdomen in a vertical direction. The skin is pulled downward and inwards towards the center of your abdomen resulting in a smooth and tummy. The technique gets its name from the incision used which is a long, vertical scar that extends from the bottom of your breastbone to your upper pubic region and then across the upper pubic region like a standard tummy tuck scar. Brazilian Abdominoplasty: A Brazilian tummy tuck is the name for the combination technique of liposuction with a tummy tuck. Liposuction is used to remove fat from the areas being treated to help give a more sculpted appearance once the excess skin is removed and tightened. The Brazilian tummy tuck technique can be applied to all the different tummy tuck types including a full tummy tuck, extended tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck and fleur de lis tummy tuck procedure. Scarring after a Brazilian tummy tuck will depend on which type of tummy tuck is performed. What does a tummy tuck involve? A tummy tuck procedure is performed under general anaesthetic in hospital. Patients usually are required to stay overnight after the procedure and will be able to return home the following day once checked over by the surgeon or nursing team. The procedure will start with an incision being made, the size and position of the incision will depend on what type of tummy tuck procedure is being performed. For a full tummy tuck for example a horizontal incision will be made along the upper pubic region and around the belly button. Your plastic surgeon will then work to remove most of the skin and fat between your belly button and upper pubic region. Some patients may be experiencing abdominal separation (Diastasis recti) which is where stomach muscles weaken and separate. It affects most women during and after pregnancy where the stomach and underlying muscles have been stretched but it can also occur in patients who have been doing excessive abdominal exercises or weightlifting the wrong way. Abdominal separation correction is included in an abdominoplasty procedure and involves using stitches to repair the abdominal wall and reduce the gap between the muscles. The skin around your bellybutton will then be repositioned and brought out via a small incision and sutured back into its normal position. The incision will then be stitched together and bandaged up with tape and a garment is placed over the area treated. A tummy tuck procedure usually takes around 3 hours to complete. Tummy Tuck aftercare Every patient will heal differently after a tummy tuck and this is just down to their own personal healing rates and also the type of tummy tuck procedure that was performed. You will be given a course of painkillers and antibiotics to take following surgery and you will need to wear your surgical garment for 6 weeks following your procedure to help aid any fluid retention and support you whilst you heal. Patients may feel tight in their stomach for the initial week following surgery but this should get better as the swelling subsides and we encourage patients to get up and take regular walks throughout the day. Patients should avoid lifting anything that could make you strain for 6 weeks which includes children, heavy bags and vacuum cleaners for example. Patients can look to return to work after 2-3 weeks, however this will depend on their job role – if your job is a little more strenuous or requires manual labour then it may be best to wait until your surgeon gives you the go ahead or see if you can take on a less demanding role temporarily whilst you are healing. Patients should also wait 6-8 weeks before returning to exercise, as with any procedure, it is important to listen to your body, take things gradually and always rest when required. Tummy tuck results The results of a tummy tuck are best seen after 6 weeks when all the swelling has subsided. It can take over a year for the scars to fully heal, your surgeon will be able to advise you on how to get the best out of your scars. This usually involves regularly massaging and moisturising the scars and keeping them out of the sun.
This procedure is basically a standard abdominoplasty with the addition of recontouring of the hips, flanks and even the lateral thigh. If the flanks have excess subcutaneous fat but not significant excess skin, liposuction of the flanks is performed at the time of standard abdominoplasty. When Is An Extended Abdominoplasty Needed? Sometimes, there is significant excess skin of the hips extending onto the flanks, with ptosis (sagging) of the lateral (outer) thighs. This is usually the case after significant weight loss; I rarely perform this procedure in other patients. In this case, a standard abdominoplasty will not address the skin excess over the hips. While a standard abdominoplasty will re-contour the central ninety percent or so of the abdomen, in these patients there will actually be an accentuation of the excess skin on the sides when the abdominal skin is advanced downward, creating a deformity which the lay public have termed a “muffin top”. This bulging of excess skin is not the same as a “dog ear”. A dog ear (how it got that name I don’t know) is when there is a small 1 – 2 cm pucker of skin at the ends of the incision. This can be re-contoured at surgery, or if it is recognized or develops later on (fairly common), it can be easily trimmed under local anesthesia in a few minutes as a minor office procedure. The problem with the muffin top is that this is not something that can be fixed under local anesthesia in a few minutes. It is much better to recognize the potential for this problem during the planning stages for surgery so that the correct procedure is chosen. The treatment is simple…to surgically remove the excess skin. The problem is that if you try to treat it like a dog ear, with the patient lying flat on the operating table you will end up inadequately treating it and re-directing the ends of the scar upwards and above the clothing line, just what you don’t want to happen! What To Expect During An Extended Tummy Tuck Dubai? The best way to handle this is to plan for an extended abdominoplasty. When the patient is being marked for an extended abdominoplasty in the standing position, markings are placed so as to remove this excess hip/flank skin but to keep the scar low, under the waistband of the clothing. During surgery, a standard abdominoplasty is performed in the usual manner, and the wound is dressed. Next, the patient is turned onto one side, exposing the entire hip/flank area. The excess skin is excised, the wound is closed and dressed. Next the patient is turned to the opposite side and the same procedure is repeated there as well. The Steps In Performing An Extended Abdominoplasty Step 1 The blue ellipse indicates the proposed amount of skin to be removed. The lower solid blue line is where the initial incision is made. The dotted blue line is the proposed upper portion of the skin excision (removal). This can vary upwards or downwards depending upon how much skin excess exists. The blue circle around the navel (umbilicus) represents the incision around the umbilicus. The umbilicus remains attached to the underlying abdominal muscles and is not lifted upwards with the remaining abdominal skin. This leaves a circular hole in the skin flap (see Step 5). The yellow area shows the extent to which the abdominal skin is elevated off the abdominal wall. The incision ultimately extends to the posterior flanks, how far back on the flank depends upon how much extra skin needs to be removed. This procedure is performed with the patient first on their back, then after the front has been completed, the patient is turned on their right side, then onto the left side. Step 2 The abdominal skin is elevated off the abdominal wall, the abdominal musculature is revealed. Note, the umbilicus remains attached to the muscle in the midline. The area of surgical dissection extends to the flanks, further than during a standard abdominoplasty. Step 3 The abdominal wall musculature is tightened using a special running suture. The muscles are brought together in the midline. Step 4 The completed repair of the abdominal musculature is shown. Step 5 The excess skin is elevated above the abdominal wall and pulled downward. The area of resection (removal) is indicated with a dotted line. The original hole in the abdominal skin is below the line of resection (removal of skin) and therefore is removed with the abdominal skin. Step 6 The flank wound exposed. The skin is elevated above and below, the excess is trimmed and then the wound is closed. There is no need to tighten the musculature. This portion of the procedure is usually performed after the front of the abdomen has been completed and the wound closed. The patient is turned onto one side, then the procedure is repeated on the other side. This is because it is often impossible to access the posterior flank when the patient is lying supine (on their back). Step 7 extended abdominoplasty long island Click to Enlarge The final result of the front portion of the procedure is shown on the left with the location of the scar across the waist crease of the abdomen as well as a scar around the umbilicus. After this portion is completed, the wound is dressed and the patient is turned onto their right side for excision of excess flank skin. Lastly the procedure is repeated on the left side. The posterior view of the final closure is shown on the right.
When patients want to improve the curvature of their abdomen, a tummy tuck can produce satisfying, long-term results. For those with additional loose skin or deposits of fat around the hips and flanks, an extended tummy tuck may be a more effective technique. Why Get an Extended Tummy Tuck? Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck, removes loose and unwanted fat from the abdominal region. Whereas a normal tummy tuck can reshape the area around and below your navel, an extended procedure can also contour your hips and flanks. An extended tummy tuck is generally recommended for patients with excess tissue around the entirety of their waist, as opposed to just the stomach. Because this surgery is more extensive than the traditional technique, patients can expect a significant change in their waist size and proportions. Although this will also shed some weight, patients should not seek abdominoplasty as a principal weight loss treatment. For patients hoping to remove a larger degree of fatty tissue, liposuction may be also be used for a more comprehensive body contouring procedure. An Extended Tummy Tuck Surgery A tummy tuck operation begins with anesthesia. If your surgeon plans to use a general anesthetic, avoid eating for 12 hours prior to surgery as it may result in exacerbated side-effects, and arrange for someone to drive you home. Many doctors recommend an overnight stay following an extended tummy tuck surgery, so make necessary preparations ahead of time. The surgery itself comprises a few simple steps: An incision is made under your stomach, ranging from the back of one hip to the other. An additional incision is made around your navel, allowing it to be repositioned in a way that complements your new form. Extraneous fat and skin are surgically removed from your abdomen, in addition to any undesirable tissue along your hips or behind them. Unlike a conventional tummy tuck, you can expect slimmer contours around the entirety of your waist. Your underlying muscles will be tightened to create smoother curves, as will your skin. When the contouring process is complete, your navel will be positioned. Your incisions will be stitched up, although drainage tubes may need to remain in place for a few days afterward. What to Expect During Recovery After the procedure, your stomach and sides will likely become swollen and partially bruised. Reserve judgment on your plastic surgery for at least a couple of weeks, allowing these effects to subside and your body to properly adapt to its curvature. You can reduce the duration of your swelling and recovery in general by wearing the elastic compression garment given to you by your doctor. During recovery, look for signs of infection, including an increase in swelling, bruising, bleeding, or pain. Although you will be given antibiotics to curb the risk of infection, it is still possible and should be reported to your doctor.
I’ve heard about mini , full, and extended tummy tucks, what is the difference? A tummy tuck Dubai refers to removing excess skin from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal wall. The terms mini, full, and extended refer to the length of the incision. All tummy tucks use an incision that is placed very low on the abdomen. Key differences include: A mini tummy tuck Dubai uses a shorter incision, but only tightens the abdominal wall below the belly button. A full tummy tuck adds an incision around the belly button, so that more skin can be removed and the abdominal wall is tightened ABOVE the belly button also. An extended tummy tuck uses a longer incision, so that extra skin on the sides of the tummy is also removed. An in-person consultation is used to determine which type of tummy tuck is best for each patient. In general: Women who have had a pregnancy do better with a full tummy tuck. This is because their abdominal wall benefits from tightening the top and bottom. An extended tummy tuck is good for people who have lost a significant amount of weight, and may have more excess skin on the sides of the tummy. A mini tummy tuck works well if there is only a little excess skin and the person only needs tightening of their abdominal wall below their belly button. What is the tummy tuck recovery like? During a tummy tuck procedure, sutures are placed in the abdominal wall. They tighten the tummy and narrow the waistline. This is commonly referred to as a muscle repair. The muscle repair takes six weeks to heal fully. Because of this repair, my patients are advised to not lift more than 10 pounds for the first six weeks after their surgery. Here is a common recovery schedule in my practice: Week 1: Pain medicine is commonly used for the first week (oxycodone), drains are... in place in the tummy, activities like walking are strongly encouraged. I use long-acting local anesthetic (Exparel) to help decrease pain for the first three days after surgery. Patients start wearing a surgical garment to help with swelling and to give their tummy some support. Week 2: Drains are removed, patients are increasing their activity and walking more, it is recommended that they do not raise their heart rate or blood pressure, they should not lift anything more than 10lbs (unfortunately this includes children). Patients start to return to work. Week 3: Most patients have returned to work, patients note that it’s much easier to perform activities, but notice that they’re more tired than they expected. They continue to need extra rest. They stop using the surgical garment and start using a lighter compression garment, like Spanx (or Target brand shapewear). Week 4: It’s okay to raise your heart rate with more vigorous walking, but I ask you to avoid full cardio. Swelling in the areas of liposuction (flanks) is continuing to go down, but is still present. It will take 6-9 months to see the full effect in the areas of liposuction. Week 6: Return to full activities (working out, lifting) without restrictions. Even at six weeks there is still soreness with heavy lifting or working out. Weeks 8-12: Patients are getting their strength back and feeling back to normal regarding their day-to-day energy level. Clinic Visits after Tummy Tuck Surgery: 1 day: I see everyone the first day after surgery. I like to be able to check on pain control, make sure there are no issues, and take the opportunity to answer questions that may have come up. 1 week: The first drain is removed 2 weeks: The second drain is removed, start scar therapy (silicone sheeting or paper tape) 6 weeks: Final check-up. How long does tummy tuck swelling last? Most of the swelling typically subsides after 2-3 months, although a small amount of residual swelling can be present for longer. The area right above the incision is the last place to develop new lymphatic channels, so this area can stay swollen the longest. I perform liposuction of the love handles (flanks) during my tummy tuck surgeries. The liposuction narrows the waistline and makes the buttocks appear more full and round. Areas of liposuction stay swollen for several months, and the liposuction sites take 6-9 months to see the final results. Can tummy tuck scars be hidden below your underpants? Can I wear a bikini one year after tummy tuck? Yes! I keep the scars from my tummy tuck procedures as low as possible. I make sure that the incision is hidden by clothing. I ask patients to bring in underwear or a bathing suit bottom that they would like to wear after the surgery. By marking the borders of the underwear before drawing my incision lines, I make sure that the incision is hidden as much as possible. Will my C-section scar be removed during a tummy tuck? A tummy tuck incision is kept very low on the abdomen, so it can be hidden by clothing. The C-section scar is removed along with the extra skin. Will a tummy tuck remove stretch marks? An abdominoplasty surgery removes the excess abdominal skin by making an incision on the lower part of the abdomen. The excess skin is trimmed and the incision is sutured closed. The amount of stretch marks that can be removed depends on where they are located on the tummy (top or bottom) and how much excess skin someone has. Typically stretch marks located below the belly button will be removed. Stretch marks on the upper abdomen may move lower down on the tummy, but typically cannot be removed completely. How long should I wear my binder/garment after a tummy tuck? Wearing a garment after tummy tuck surgery is not required. However, using a garment for the first six weeks can help the swelling decrease more quickly. Also, a garment or binder, can provide extra support that many patients find more comfortable than going without. I have patients wear a surgical garment for the first three weeks. Then I have them switch into a lighter weight compression garment, such as Spanx. Can you have a baby after a tummy tuck Dubai? The short answer is yes. However, it’s important to understand that having a child after a tummy tuck surgery will change your surgical result. During a tummy tuck, sutures are placed to tighten the abdominal wall. A pregnancy will restretch the abdominal wall and make it loose again. This may cause some of the bulging of the abdomen to return. It’s possible to do a revision surgery to retighten the abdomen, but in general I advise patients to finish having children before having their tummy tuck surgery. This gives them the best chance to have a beautiful and long-lasting result. Should I lose weight before a tummy tuck surgery? This is a very good question and the answer depends on what someone’s goal weight is. In general, someone should reach their goal weight before having a tummy tuck. If they are within 10-15 pounds of their goal, then it’s okay to proceed. However, if someone intends to lose even more weight, then it’s best to do it before surgery. Large amounts of weight loss after a tummy tuck surgery may create excess skin, causing them to want a revision. Typically their BMI (body mass index) should also be less than 30 when considering a tummy tuck surgery. This helps decrease the risk of complications.
