WHAT TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANTS ARE AVAILABLE?
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 17 April 2019
Silicone breast implants
Silicone breast implants are filled with silicone gel. The gel feels a bit more like natural breast tissue. If the implant leaks, the gel may remain within the implant shell, or may escape into the breast implant pocket.
Gummy bear breast implants
Form-stable implants are sometimes referred to as gummy bear breast implants because they maintain their shape even when the implant shell is broken. The consistency of the silicone gel inside the implant is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants. These implants are also firmer than traditional implants. Shaped gummy bear breast implants have more projection at the bottom and are tapered towards the top. If a shaped implant rotates, it may lead to an unusual appearance of the breast that requires a separate procedure to correct. Placement of gummy bear implants requires a slightly longer incision in the skin.
Round breast implants
Round breast implants have a tendency to make breasts appear fuller than form-stable implants. Higher profile options can achieve even more projection.
Because round implants are the same shape all over, there is less concern about them rotating out of place.
Shaped breast implants (tear drops or anatomical shape)
Shaped breast implants are designed to define a more natural shape of the breast and maintain a long lasting result due to their firmness. The gel inside is very cohesive and maintain the shape giving the breast a very gentle slope on the upper pole.
Smooth breast implants
Smooth breast implants are the softest feeling. They can move with the breast implant pocket, which may give more natural movement.
Smooth implants may have some palpable or visible rippling under the skin.
Textured breast implants
Textured breast implants develop scar tissue to stick to the implant, making them less likely to move around inside of the breast and become repositioned.
Texturing offers some advantage in diminishing the risk of a tight scar capsule. Implant manufacturers occasionally introduce new styles and types of breast implants, so there may be additional options available.
The latest technology in texturization is the mirco or nano- texturixation which mime the smooth implants giving the breast a more stable shape and diminishing the risks od capsular contracture and rotation.
Whatever kind of implants you will choose , it is important for you to monitor your breast implants and follow-up with appropriate checkups.
WHERE WILL BE THE INCISION PLACED?
The typical incisions are placed under the breast (inframammary incision) or around the areolar (peri-areolar incision). If you didn’t have children and you did not breast fed yet, the inframammary incision is recommended to avoid any cutting on the gland itself to avoid reduction of the production of milk during a future pregnancy.
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR BREAST AUGMENTATION?
In preparing for breast augmentation, you may be asked to:
– Get a blood test
– Get a preliminary ultrasound or mammogram (for patients above 40
years of age)
– Take certain medications or adjust your current medications
– Stop smoking
– Avoid taking aspirin and certain anti-inflammatory drugs as they can
increase bleeding
– Arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery and to stay with
you for at least the first night following surgery.
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY BREAST AUGMENTATION RECOVERY?
During your breast augmentation recovery, your breasts will be wrapped in gauze dressings and an elastic bandage or support bra will minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal.
Immediately after surgery, you will be taken into a recovery area for close monitoring. You may be permitted to go home when you are stable for discharge, typically after few hours or so.
WHAT RESULTS SHOULD I EXPECT AFTER BREAST AUGMENTATION SURGERY?
While a breast augmentation yields larger breasts right away, the final results may take a few weeks as the swelling subsides and the skin stretches. Some patients may need to wear a bandeau to help shape their breasts, especially if they have underlying asymmetry or very small breasts to start with. Incision lines may take several months to fade.
a tummy tuck is intended to create sleeker contours
Tummy Tuck Dubai | 13 April 2019
When it comes to a tummy tuck, I frequently explain to patients that the procedure is not a single surgical step, but rather a series of elements that can be combined to create customized results.
Whereas liposuction focuses solely on removing unwanted fat cells from the body – such as those that create a noticeable bulge at the belly – a tummy tuck is intended to create sleeker contours by addressing any number of conditions that keep the abdomen from looking toned.
Excess fat
Of course, stubborn pockets of fat are an obvious culprit when it comes to a larger waistline. While liposuction is frequently performed as a standalone procedure, it can also be used as part of a tummy tuck to help flatten the area. For this element, just about everything is handled as it would be for a solo lipo procedure: Fat is loosened and suctioned out via a cannula. The difference is that while liposuction requires small incisions that are later sutured closed, the incision made for a tummy tuck allows the surgeon access.
Excess skin
While extra fat causes bulges, extra skin creates a sagging pouch that can hide even well-defined abdominal muscles that sit beneath. The amount of excess tissue can range from a little to a lot (sometimes referred to as an “apron”). For a tummy tuck, the surgeon essentially re-drapes the abdominal skin so that it sits flat and tight, then trims away the excess. The incision and subsequent sutures for this element are typically hidden lower on the torso, where they can be covered by a swimsuit bottom or underwear.
Lax muscles
Over time, belly muscles and their covering fascia can become loose. Whereas firm fascia holds everything in place – something like interlaced fingers keeping a water balloon from bulging outward – lax fascia allow the contents behind to bulge outward. Abdominal muscles can separate, giving the entire midsection a flabby look. During a tummy tuck, a surgeon can, if necessary, stitch these muscles and fascia back together to make everything tight and toned. In some cases, as with a mini-tummy tuck, this may be the primary element of the procedure. It is often chosen by moms who have a small bulge that sits below the belly button.
Belly button placement
Depending on the tummy tuck details, the surgeon may need to “relocate” the belly button, which involves creating a hole in the newly taut abdominal skin so the navel appears where it should to remain proportional with the rest of the body. This is called “umbilical translocation.” Following this, the body can be further contoured to encourage an hourglass shape by creating an “internal corset.” I have performed measurements that show narrowing of the waist and improvement of the waistline due to work at this stage.
When all of the steps are completed, the incision will be closed with either a special glue or absorbable sutures, such that the patient can take a shower the next day and there is no need to remove the sutures. Lasers can be used post-operatively to hasten the healing of scars. Also, use of Exparel injections numb the abdomen for three days, which can minimize pain for patients.
Since every patient has a unique body shape and size, as well as personal goals for an ultimate look, each tummy tuck is its own procedure. While there are commonalities between all such surgeries, no two will be exactly alike.
The most common form of tummy tuck involves a horizontal incision near the pubic hairline, so swimwear or undergarments can hide the resulting scar. If there is excess skin above the navel, an incision around the navel may be required. Sometimes, the surgery involves liposuction to remove pockets of excess fat from specific areas of the body. To reduce scar tissue and increase the speed of healing, I may utilize a harmonic scalpel that uses ultrasonic energy to perform parts of the tummy tuck surgery. Diastasis is a term used to describe the separation of the two-paired abdominal muscles that make up the front of the abdomen, which is often caused by multiple pregnancies. Sutures are used to tighten up the abdominal wall, resulting in a flatter stomach. Stronger, tighter abdomen muscles may also help reduce lower back pain.
A tummy tuck is not a shortcut to weight loss. But, it can be a powerfully transforming surgery and complements the impact that weight loss has on the abdominal profile. Many of our patients say they feel liberated after having a tummy tuck. They can wear a bikini again, or not wear a shirt or a top to cover up their loose stomach. They feel good about being outdoors running, swimming and golfing. It does a lot to boost a person’s confidence in their bodies and for many of my patients, it’s an incentive to maintain a healthy appearance for the rest of their lives. For some patients, tighter abdomen muscles may also help reduce lower back pain.
TYPES OF TUMMY TUCKS
Depending on the patient’s aesthetic objective, plastic surgeons will recommend one of the following three types of tummy tucks available:
Full or classic tummy tucks
Classic tummy tucks (which are also referred to as full tummy tucks) are utilized when individuals want to address the sections above and below their belly button, the full length of the abdominal wall. Patients who opt for a full tummy tuck often want to resolve general roundness and excess skin. With this procedure, one horizontal or u-shape incision, and possibly a second incision, are made above the pubic area and the belly button, respectively, to remove excess skin and tighten muscle. Full tummy tucks present the most natural-looking outcome, and can include a much firmer abdomen.
Mini tummy tucks
Mini tummy tucks involve less extensive incisions compared to a full tummy tuck and are intended to improve only the lower belly, below the patient’s belly button. This makes the procedure ideal for people who want to rid their bellies of a “pooch”, tiny bulge or stretch marks in the lower abdominal region only. Plastic surgeons can tighten loose muscles through a single low horizontal incision (typically without an incision around the belly button), and remove excess lower abdominal skin, resulting in a firmer, smoother lower belly.
Extended tummy tuck
The extended tummy tuck is considered when the goals of the procedure are to address the abdomen while simultaneously targeting the flanks and hips. To perform this procedure, the surgeon extends the horizontal incision more laterally as well as often incorporating a longer, vertical incision, which enables the surgeon to remove excess skin from the upper and lower abdominal region as well as the flanks while tightening the abdominal wall. This procedure is often ideal for those patients who have had multiple pregnancies or have lost lots of weight, either through diet and exercise or through weight loss surgery.
DETERMINE WHICH PROCEDURE IS RIGHT FOR YOU
Deciding which procedure is right for you will be contingent upon several factors and is best done in consultation with an experienced Plastic Surgeon. Some of them include your desired results, overall skin quality, body type and location of excess skin on the body. The amount of excess skin will also determine which procedure is most appropriate. Finally, any scarring attained from a previous cosmetic procedure or surgery can determine which kind of tuck the patient qualifies for.
RECOVERY
You’ll want to figure out a time frame for your recovery so you have ample time to heal and can take a break from certain aspects of your life. Make sure you make the proper arrangements and are fully prepared for your recovery period.
Your drains will be left in for a few days after the surgery. You’ll be shown how to take care of and empty the drains. You’ll likely need to take an antibiotic and an anticoagulant while your drains are in place.
You’ll wear an abdominal binder for about six weeks. This helps to avoid fluid buildup and helps to support your abdomen.
While the recovery period is usually shorter for a mini-tummy tuck, you’ll still need to avoid strenuous activity for at least six weeks. This includes any vigorous exercise or heavy lifting.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER YOUR SURGERY
I will properly brief you about how to recover at home.
You will be guided:
– how to care for incisions and drain tubes
– what to be aware of in terms of infection or overall health
– what to avoid in terms of physical activity that affects your incision line for six weeks
– when you need to see me again
– how long to wear the abdominal pressure garment
– how much to rest
– what you can eat
You’ll need to have someone who can drive you home from the hospital and help take care of you for at least the first few days after your surgery. You can shower few hours after you remove your drainage tubes. You may want to take a sponge bath until you can shower. You may be advised to use a chair when showering for some time.
You’ll be prescribed an antibiotic and possibly an anticoagulant. You may be given some type of medication to apply to the skin. Take any pain medication as directed. You shouldn’t take any medicine containing aspirin unless directed by your doctor.
You should also avoid alcohol if you’re taking pain medication, and avoid any form of nicotine for at least six weeks. Smoking can hinder the healing process and may cause complications.
Breast implant illness: why good science needs to combat hysteria
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 8 April 2019
A lucrative industry is springing up around “breast implant illness”, with some doctors charging women thousands to remove implants with no guarantee the surgery will make them better. Social media is fuelling an explosion in the numbers of women scared their breast implants are making them sick and deciding to have them removed, with online support groups for breast implant illness (BII) numbering in the thousands and growing every day. But there is a lack of strong scientific evidence for whether breast implants are causing the clusters of unexplained and debilitating symptoms attributed to BII, two leading Australian plastic surgeons say.
Rising numbers of implant patients are reporting unexplained or vague illnesses and symptoms, including auto-immune diseases, allergies, migraine, chronic fatigue, joint pain, depression, heart and kidney problems and hair loss, said Associate Professor Anand Deva, head of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Macquarie University. Some doctors were cashing in on the BII boom, marketing breast implant removal – or breast explantation – as a treatment for BII and charging vulnerable women up to $20,000 for the invasive and potentially useless procedure, Dr Deva said.
“There is such a strong commercial driver that it’s drowning out any potential for science and trust in this space,” he said. Reports of BII first emerged in the 1960s, and recent studies have shown a link between silicone implants and certain autoimmune diseases. But Associate Professor Mark Magnusson, former president of the Australasian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS), said there was a need for robust, systematic research to define BII, its causes and how to treat it. Professor Magnusson leads a group of researchers and surgeons that recently proposed a longitudinal trial to untangle the nebulous catch-all diagnosis. “[BII] has a very large following but unfortunately this doesn’t translate to good science,” Dr Magnusson said. “We need methodical, sophisticated research to try and answer these questions rather than jump to unsupported conclusions.” The surgeons suggest study participants would undergo thorough physical checks, blood tests to check for autoimmune disease markers and genetic sequencing to look for gene mutations that could predispose some women to BII.
Their implants, capsule and surrounding tissue would also be analysed. Patients would be followed up for at least two years. The surgeons said the most likely cause of BII is the body’s inflammatory response to contaminants or bacteria but it would take more than a decade to find definitive answers. “These illnesses patients describe could all be manifestations of the same thing,” Dr Deva said. The surgeons said women concerned about BII should be taken seriously and treated appropriately. Last week the US Food and Drug Administration held a two-day public hearing to discuss breast implant safety, including breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (a rare form of cancer), implant registries, potentially banning breast implants with textured surfaces, as well as breast implant illness.
The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists reported the FDA kept hundreds of thousands of breast implant incidents reports hidden from the public. Jane Kimpton, founder of an Australian BII support group on Facebook, said she welcomed robust research into BII, but was sceptical whether plastic surgeons with commercial ties to implant manufacturers were the most appropriate researchers. Dr Magnusson and Dr Deva consult and coordinate research for Johnson & Johnson and Allergan. Dr Deva also works with Motiva and Sientra. “In the meantime, all these tests, referrals and appointments are costing women thousands of dollars,” Ms Kimpton said. She said some women had suffered debilitating symptoms for years, but now social media influencers with relatively minor ailments and self-proclaimed experts were joining the bandwagon.
“This is not just something for 20-somethings in bikinis on Instagram to blog about,” Ms Kimpton said. “Then there are the pseudo-natural therapists who are suddenly experts in treating [BII] and trying to create a niche market. Women are just desperate to get answers.” Roberta Hongiman, a social worker who specialises in plastic surgery patients, suspects the uptick in women coming to her with BII concerns over the past two years was driven by “unsavoury social media hysteria” but added some of these women are feeling very unwell and extensive testing was not providing answers.

DERMAL FILLERS: WHICH FILLERS ARE RIGHT FOR ME?
Fillers in Dubai | 1 April 2019
Which filler is the best for you, and which filler should you choose for a specific treatment: nasolabial wrinkles, lips, nose, cheeks, quality of skin tone, or undereye bags? The internet and media are full of contradictory information. Although there are dermal fillers such as Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite crystals), Sculptra (poly L-lactic acid), and permanent fillers like Aquamid, in this guide, I cover dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid – as these are the only dermal fillers I personally recommend. The reason for this is that hyaluronic fillers are not permanent, they have no lasting effects, they yield the most natural results, and if necessary, can be removed and dissolved using a special enzyme.
If a doctor prefers the use of renowned brands such as Restylane, Juvéderm, or some other (i.e. Teosyal and Belotero hyaluronic fillers), then the patient is definitely in very good hands, because these brands offer a whole range of different fillers, with various densities, hyaluronic concentration, and molecule size, let alone years of medical testing and research. My medical experience in aesthetic medicine has shown me that no specific brand is ideal, which is why it is in every patient’s interest that their doctor has a selection of at least 2 of these brands of fillers. Hyaluronic dermal fillers, along with Botox are the main tool of modern aesthetic medicine. Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our skin, and its main task is skin hydration, as well as collagen reinforcement, and the restoration of elasticity. Our skin thus acquires a glow, stays firm, we have a healthier skin tone, and lost volume is restored in the face.
The history of hyaluronic dermal fillers is a relatively brief one. Bengt Agerup, a Swedish scientist and genius, was the first to stabilise hyaluronic acid in 1996. Up to then we only had inferior collagen and dangerous silicone fillers, but when the first dermal filler, Restylane, was produced in Uppsala, the world of aesthetic medicine changed forever. Over 25 million treatments using Restylane fillers have been performed all over the world to date. Most hyaluronic fillers are produced by fermenting bacteria in a laboratory, meaning they are produced in a natural and organic way (rare brands of hyaluronic fillers such as Dermavisca stem from animal sources – the fleshy comb of a rooster). This hyaluronic acid (the largest production plants of natural hyaluronic acid are in France and China) is used not only in dermal fillers, but in cosmetics and many creams, as well as in mesotherapy. Each brand of filler uses a different method and technology to stabilise and bind the hyaluronic acid, so that it can last in the skin for an average of 6-36 months. There can be a great difference between various dermal fillers. The stabilisation process and binding of hyaluronic acid varies with each brand, and the consistency of each filler is also different, as well as the concentration of hyaluronic acid, size of the molecules, and density. Furthermore, only some dermal fillers such as Restylane, Juvéderm and Teosyal contain lidocaine, a local anaesthetic. This, for me, is essential, because the treatments are less painful, and are a mark of a serious dermal filler brand.
WHICH FILLER IS THE BEST FOR WHICH TREATMENT?
LIPS
I will begin with the lips because in my many years of experience i have come across the greatest controversies especially when it comes to this treatment. Although it appears to be simple, it is one of the most difficult procedures in aesthetic medicine, and one which requires years of experience.
Today I am proud to say that I perform countless lip augmentations and contouring on a monthly basis. Restylane is a dermal filler i have used for years for lip augmentation. The results are excellent and yield very natural and soft lips. It is still one of my favourite lip fillers because it contains the optimum concentration of hyaluronic acid. Drawbacks? The results only last 6 months, and the lips are very swollen right after the procedure; however, the swelling dies off in just 24 hours.
Restylane Kisse is the latest version of Restylane classic filler, with everything the same, except that results last over 9 months, because of the larger molecules and higher concentration of hyaluronic acid, due to the use of Emervel technology. There is no significant swelling following the procedure, the lips look exceptionally natural and very sensual.
Juvéderm Ultra 3 is a very good lip filler from the house of Allergan, but offers subtle results that last for only 6 months. Allergan has recently launched its new Vycross technology, under which is its selected lip filler, Juvéderm Volift, although Juvéderm Volbella can also be used.
Juvéderm Volift lasts for 9-12 months, there is no significant swelling following the procedure, but I have noticed minor swelling in some patients, which can be manifest as small balls and thickening of the upper lip after a couple of weeks. However, this problem quickly dissipates on its own, or after a massage.
Teosyal kiss and Neauvia Lips are also a very good dermal lip fillers. As the names suggest, they are specially formulated for lip treatment. They yield great results, with minimal side effects. Although it is difficult for me to determine the best filler for this treatment, I would give the title to a specially designed lip filler – Restylane Kysse. Right behind are definitely Juvéderm Volift and Restylane Lyps. In most cases, only 1ml of filler is enough per treatment, and it is not recommended to do more than that. It is wiser to come back after a month’s time and add another 1ml if your doctor finds it appropriate. What is most important is that the results are natural, and the face proportional.
UNDEREYE BAGS
Many doctors believe that there is no dermal filler suitable for this procedure, but from my own personal experience and following many successful treatments, I can confirm that this is not true. With my experience of undereye treatments, this is a remarkable treatment that yields outstanding results, and the best fillers for it is Teosyal Redensity II. Here it is possible, with great expertise, to use both thinner and thicker dermal fillers. Knowledge is what counts most. Over the years, I have tried using other dermal fillers in this facial zone such as juvederm Volbella, belotero, restylane perlane and although they yielded adequate results, too much oedema was reported, and the effects were not as good as the above-mentioned fillers. Teosyal is the absolute king for undereye bags. In 80% of cases, 1ml of dermal filler is enough to erase bags under the eyes – even extra-large ones. 10% of patients require more than 1ml, while 10% need to come back for their third ml.
NON-SURGICAL FACE-LIFTING / CHEEK AUGMENTATION
This increasingly popular treatment offers a natural facelift for skin that has lost volume and appears relaxed. With the expert administration of hyaluronic dermal fillers, there is no more need for a scalpel and surgery, because this can yield very effective and natural results with non-surgical face-lifting, and requires the use of 2ml – 5ml of dermal filler. What’s more, the effects can last for even 18 – 36 months (because this treatment uses denser fillers with larger molecules). The first such filler on the market was Restylane Sub Q, but it has proven to be too hard a filler, and so over the last 5 years my favourite filler for lifting the face, cheeks and saggy skin around the chin is definitely Juvéderm Voluma. It is a wonderful filler with large molecules that provides an adequate lift, which can easily be injected.
For these procedures, I can also pay compliments to Restylane Lyft, which has recently emerged on the market. It is a new technology from Galderma which is now keeping stride with Juvéderm. These two brands are unique in that they come in 1ml doses and can be injected with a syringe. Other brands either do not have these fillers with larger molecules (vital for an adequate facelift), or only offer 2ml ampules that can solely be applied through a cannula, which may be unsuitable for many patients. It is my opinion that in the majority of cases, fillers must be administered with a syringe and not a cannula, as this yields better and more accurate results, which is logical. From patient to patient, if we take into account their age, skin type and condition, at least 2ml of filler is needed for a non-surgical facelift, but the dosage can rise up to 8 – 10ml of filler, which is obviously administered in 2 to 3 separate treatments.
NOSE
When it comes to the nose, dermal fillers in Dubai should not be too dense due to the sensitive anatomy of the nose, yet must also have enough strength to lift and contour, fill in imperfections and align the nose. Restylane Lyft can achieve perfect results with no side effects but also Juvéderm, Teosyal, Neauvia and other fillers in Dubai, are also suitable for this treatment. As always, the most important factor is the expertise and experience of the doctor. If we select a proper brand of hyaluronic acid, along with a good quality doctor, in most cases 1ml is enough to yield results that last over 18 months.
NASOLABIAL WRINKLES
The correction of nasolabial wrinkles is still the most sought-after dermal filler treatment. It is a procedure that is most easily performed with the longest lasting effects. But, just a word of warning – I must emphasise that extensive knowledge, skill and expertise is also required here, not only to achieve the best results, but also because this zone demands detailed cognisance of its anatomy, in order to avoid side-effects such as vascular compromise, which cannot occur when administered by an expert, but becomes highly probable when one is in “unprofessional” hands. Here, many dermal fillers are very suitable, and so one can choose from a wide pallet. The dermal filler in Dubai should be thinner, with less molecules, such as is the case with Juvéderm Volbella or Volift filler, Restylane Classic, Teosyal Global Action or Neauvia Intense Flux. When dealing with shallow wrinkles, 1ml is enough for both wrinkles, but in many cases 2ml are required.
REJUVENATING THE SKIN OF THE FACE, NECK, DÉCOLLETÉ AND HANDS WITH STABILISED HYALURONIC ACID (“SKINBOOSTERS”)
Modern aesthetic medicine is turning more and more to treatments of the skin itself and its rejuvenation. Laser treatments, plasma treatments, and dermal rollers are increasingly popular, but hyaluronic preparations achieve the best results. The skin of the face, neck, décolleté and hands gain a new glow, while wrinkles, pores and scars disappear. Elasticity is restored, and the skin is firmer. In a treatment which I call medical mesotherapy, the best product are Restylane Vital Skinbooster and Neauvia Hydrodeluxe. In Restylane Skinbooster the greatest advantage is the technology of the syringe itself that has a special “clicker” to provide a precise dose with each prick of the needle. Neauvia Hydrodeluxe offers a very competitive package with more product at the same cost of other Skinboosters. The latest product of this type on the market is Juvéderm Volite, which yields excellent results, but we must also mention Profhilo, a recent market launch by Ibsa. It is an innovative dermal filler that is something between a dermal filler and a skinbooster.

What are the Benefits of Breast Augmentation Surgery?
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 31 March 2019
Why do people have breast enlargement surgery?
People choose this operation for different reasons:
To enhance the body contour
To reconstruct the breast after previous breast surgery
To improve breast size or shape after having children
To balance a difference in breast size.
What are the benefits of breast enlargement surgery?
Perhaps you have always wanted larger breasts. Or you may want to enhance the shape of your breasts following pregnancy or weight loss. Breast augmentation patients often report psychological benefits following the procedure including:
Increased self esteem (self confidence)
Enjoy wearing new/fitted clothing
Feeling more feminine
Body balance, feeling breast are more in proportion with your body.
What kind of breast implant should I choose?
Based on your own needs I may also discuss and advise you on what implant might be best to use. All implants are made of an outer layer (shell) of silicone. They can be filled with silicone, salt water (saline) or both. The silicone used to fill the implant can be in the form of a liquid or gel (cohesive silicone). Liquid silicone and saline implants give a softer and more natural feel. Cohesive silicone implants give a firmer feel and can come in more shapes. Textured liquid implants with a simple round shape often give as good results as shaped cohesive-gel implants.
Is silicone safe?
Many studies have been carried out to find if silicone breast implants are safe. There is no evidence to suggest that women who have silicone breast implants are at a higher risk of getting diseases such as cancer and arthritis.
What happens during breast augmentation surgery?
Your operation is performed under a general anaesthetic (you will be asleep) and usually takes approximately an hour and a half. There are several options for surgical incisions:
Inframammary (the crease under the breast)
Transaxillary (the armpit)
Periareolar (the area around the nipple)
The type of incision used is based on the type of implant, the degree of augmentation (enlargement), your particular anatomy and patient/surgeon preference. I will usually place the implant in a pocket directly behind your breast as this gives the most natural result. However, if you do not have enough breast skin and tissue to cover the implant, I may recommend placing the implant behind the pectoral muscle.
Going home after your breast enlargement surgery
You should be able to go home the same day or the day after your surgery. You might be required to wear a special supportive bra for several weeks to help your breasts settle after the procedure. Everyone recovers at their own pace. However most women return to normal activities within two to three weeks. Depending on your type of job you should be able to return to work after the first week. You should be able to do a limited amount of activity, such as lifting young children, after about two weeks. It usually takes a few weeks for your breasts to look and feel more natural. The results of a breast augmentation usually last for a long time. The length of time a breast implant lasts will vary depending on an individual’s personal factors.
Why Choose Breast Augmentation?
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 26 March 2019
If you’re considering having breast augmentation surgery, it’s really important that you take time to think about it first. Find out about the procedure and if you decide to go for it, breast enlargement is a major operation.
Breast enlargement (or breast augmentation) usually involves putting an artificial implant either under the breast tissue or under the chest muscle behind the breast. You’ll probably have a general anaesthetic, and you may need to stay in hospital overnight. You’ll need to take between one and two weeks off work. You may still be able to breastfeed with breast implants, and silicone hasn’t been found in breast milk. Breast implants can interfere with mammography. If you’re going for breast screening, tell your radiographer or nurse that you have breast implants.
Why choose breast enlargement?
You may choose to have your breasts enlarged because you feel that they’re too small. Some women feel that their breasts are too small after losing weight or after a pregnancy. You may want to have a breast enlargement to correct a difference in size between your breasts. You may also consider breast implants if you’re having surgery to treat breast cancer or other conditions. This is because the size and shape of your breasts may be affected. I will discuss the size, shape and type of implants that are most suitable for you.
Getting advice about breast enlargement
It’s important not to rush into a decision to have any cosmetic procedure, including breast augmentation surgery. Spend some time looking into the type of surgery you’re thinking about. Before opting for a breast enlargement operation, discuss with me what you’re hoping to gain from the procedure. Ask about the result you can realistically expect and the risks and possible complications of the surgery. Remember, it’s OK to take a list of questions with you when you meet me. This is your chance to get all the information you need to make the decision whether to have surgery or not. I encourage you to take a few weeks as a ‘cooling off’ period before you go ahead with your surgery. If you still have questions, a second consultation with me may help.
Preparing for your operation
I will explain how to prepare for your operation. For example, if you smoke, you’ll be asked to stop. Smoking increases your risk of getting a chest and wound infection, which can slow your recovery. You’ll usually have your breast augmentation under a general anaesthetic. This means you’ll be asleep during the procedure. You’ll be asked to follow fasting instructions. This means not eating or drinking, typically for about six hours beforehand. However, it’s important to follow my advice. The operation may be carried out as a day case or you may need to stay in hospital overnight. Make arrangements beforehand to have someone drive you home afterwards.
I will discuss with you what will happen before, during and after your procedure, and any pain you might have. If you’re unsure about anything, ask. No question is too small. You don’t have to go ahead with the procedure if you decide you don’t want it. Once you understand the procedure and if you agree to have it, you’ll be asked to sign a consent form.
I will measure your breasts and assess their shape, your skin and the position of your nipples. I’ll probably draw on your breasts to mark the operation site. I may also photograph your breasts for confidential ‘before and after’ images.
What happens during Breast Augmentation Dubai?
Breast enlargement usually takes around one and a half hours. You’ll probably have a general anaesthetic, which means you’ll be asleep during the operation.
I will make incisions in the skin on your breast. The exact position of the cuts can vary. They may be in the crease under your breast, around your nipple or towards your armpit. I will then make a space for the implant. The implant usually lies under your breast tissue on top of your chest muscle, but is sometimes put under your chest muscle. There are pros and cons to putting the implant under or over your chest muscle. Putting the implant under your chest muscle reduces the chance of the edges of the implant showing. It may also reduce the risk of a complication called capsular contracture. However, it may mean you have more pain afterwards. I will discuss with you which method is best for you. I will close the cut with stitches (which may be dissolvable), and may wrap your breasts in a supportive dressing or support bra.
Recovering from breast enlargement surgery
You’ll probably need one to two weeks off work after breast enlargement surgery. How long you need may depend on what your job involves and what type of surgery you had. You shouldn’t do any strenuous exercise or lift heavy weights for around three to six weeks. I will give you advice about exercise, driving and returning to work in your particular circumstances – it’s important to follow this. You may be given some painkilling medicines to take home with you. If not, and you feel you need pain relief, you can take over-the-counter painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen. Always read the patient information leaflet that comes with your medicine and if you have any questions, ask your pharmacist for advice.
Some women find it more comfortable to wear a sports bra for a month or so while they heal. Ask your surgeon whether they would recommend this for you.
Breast Augmentation Dubai
Non Surgical Breast Enlargement
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 19 March 2019
I appreciate that many of my patients are interested in enhancing the shape and fullness of their breasts but would like to keep a natural profile and are not comfortable with the idea of implants, despite the huge progress that has been made in their manufacture and safety.
So it’s good to know all about what alternatives to breast implants are available and the variety of non-surgical breast enhancement techniques. Suction devices and other ‘natural’ alternatives may be suitable for patients who wish to avoid implants however I think you may be disappointed with the results.
Today, many women are opting for a very successful alternative – Fat Transfer, also known as Lipomodelling and a Natural Breast Enlargement. This is less invasive than inserting implants but more effective and long-lasting than other “non-surgical” procedures which do not tend to work. Fat Transfer is an implant-free surgical procedure carried out to add volume to an area of the body. This is not suitable for slim patients as you need to have plenty of access fat.
Fat is removed from an area of the body where it is in excess and transferred to an area that requires restoration or augmentation, this is designed to improve volume and change proportion and in most cases offers long lasting results. Breast enlargement with fat transfer is as an alternative to implants and may be used to increase the fullness of the breast by one cup size, balance cases of asymmetrical breasts (uneven breasts) or restore contours in cases of unevenness.
A ‘Natural Boob Job’ isn’t right for everyone. Unfortunately, I cannot consider patients whose body’s do not have sufficient fat resources. I will agree with you an area where you’d like to harvest fat from and discuss what breast enhancement outcome you may be able to achieve. It’s a win-win procedure. I am here to answer your questions and help you decide whether fat transfer is appropriate for you.
The perfect pout
Fillers in Dubai | 16 March 2019
What do Jennifer Lawrence, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Garner, and Kylie Jenner all have in common? The perfectly plump sexy pout that women of all ages are seeking. Lip augmentation procedures are currently a highly publicized and trending treatment thanks to these celebrities. Kylie Jenner’s lips alone overtook social media with her #KylieJennerChallenge, allowing us to now be more comfortable talking about these procedures. In the age of the selfie and duck faces, we are increasingly much more aware of the appearance of our lips. This has, in all senses of the phrase, created a perfect storm. It is no wonder that a record number are seeking lip enhancement procedures.
What traditionally consisted of patients with lip deficiencies from aging, ablative procedures or congenital abnormalities, now consists of a much younger age group that desire full, well-defined lips with enhanced volume and shape. While there are multiple permanent and nonpermanent options for lip augmentation, the most commonly performed and requested today are synthetic dermal fillers, the most popular of which are the hyaluronic acid (HA)-based fillers. HA is typically present in body tissues, such as the skin and cartilage and is, therefore, relatively safe when used appropriately by a trained healthcare professional. These fillers include, but are not limited to, Restylane, Juvederm Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Prevalle Silk, Perlane, and Belotero. Restylane Silk and Juvederm Ultra XC. These fillers generally last 6 months to one year, therefore, touch-ups will be required to maintain the desired appearance. Properties of fillers such as stiffness and viscosity, and surgeon preference are taken into consideration when choosing a filler. The benefits of the HA fillers are they allow improved control and gradual filling of the lips.
When is lip augmentation the right choice for you? If you desire a fuller lip or feel self-conscious about the appearance of your lips, you should seek out a consultation. There are many available options, so it is important to do your homework. Obtain a consultation by an experienced Plastic Surgeon who is trained in the safe use of these fillers, be open and honest about your desired lip, and you will be well on your way to that perfectly full and plump pout.
Breast augmentation – why cost shouldn’t be the first question you ask
Breast Augmentation Dubai | 8 March 2019
One of the most common questions regarding breast augmentation is “how much does it cost?” When you are looking to make a costly purchase of any kind, the cost is certainly an important factor to consider, but when your health and medical results are at stake, it shouldn’t be the only one. In fact, it should be far down the list, below patient safety and the quality of the results. Cheap surgery can end up being the most expensive procedure of all. Breast augmentation is real surgery, and although the complication rates are low, they are much higher in the hands of someone who isn’t well-trained or who cuts corners by operating in an unaccredited facility. The most extreme is to get bargain surgery in another country without rigorous safety regulations.
