Breast Augmentation – Things to consider before your surgery

During your consultation, you should aim to articulate your wishes for surgery and any concerns you may have. It is quite understandable that many patients will feel shy when discussing surgery; however, I will have spoken to hundreds of patients about similar issues and will do my absolute best to put you at your ease.

The more that you can prepare for your consultation, the more you are likely to get from it. Once you have booked your first consultation, you should try to doing a little “homework” by reading about the operation on the Internet. It is also often helpful to write your questions down; many patients comment that they remembered their most important question just as they were leaving the clinic.

What to expect

I will start the consultation by taking a medical “history”. You will be asked about any illnesses or operations you have had in the past, and any strong family history of illness. It is probable that this will start with questions about your concerns and expectations. If you are taking any medicines, you should be able to provide a list for me. You will also be asked about any allergies to medicines, dressings, latex etc. This will be followed by an examination where several measurements will be taken of the chest wall and the breasts. It is likely that pre-operative photographs will be taken after the examination. I will then discuss the surgery, its implications, limitations and any potential complications. You will then have a chance to ask any questions that you might have. If you are planning breast enlargement surgery, I will spend some time with you deciding on the size and style of the implants that will be used. Taking a friend or relative to a consultation can help put some patients at ease.

Things to consider before your surgery

Before booking your surgery date, it is important to consider events you may be attending in the near future, such as a wedding, holiday or work function. Please ensure you schedule your surgery as far away from these events as possible to give yourself time to make a full recovery.

Electing to undergo breast augmentation surgery can be both thrilling and intimidating. Although the operation has many great benefits, many people are often unaware as to what exactly goes into getting the procedure. Typically, the surgery will encompass three phases: consultation, operation, and recovery. Each step of the process requires its own level of consideration. By taking the time to learn about each phase, you can ensure that you get the results you want. Before beginning the process, however, you have to decide if the procedure is for you.

Is breast augmentation right for me?

Before setting up a consultation, patients should take the time to consider if the procedure is right for them. The process requires time, money, and enduring some physical discomfort. Since the procedure involves an initial investment, you should take the time to think about your desired outcome and what you would consider a good value for your money. Once you have a clear idea of what you want, you can then meet with a surgeon to get their opinion on how to best achieve these results.

The consultation

Although many patients have their first consultation with some idea of how they would like to appear after the operation, you can also ask surgeons for recommendations. A breast augmentation specialist will have performed many surgeries by the time you enter their clinic, so surgeons have a working knowledge of what people prefer when it comes to breast augmentation. Doctors can use computer-assisted visualization tools to determine the best size and implant type for your body.

During the consultation, the doctor will explain the entire process of the breast augmentation. Beyond size, you will have to choose the kind of implant material you would like. The two main choices are silicone or saline, which will determine firmness and shape. Depending on your choice, you will have to select a shape, which can be round or teardrop, among other choices. Depending on what you choose, the doctor will then recommend either to place the implant below or above the muscle.

The procedure

Breast augmentation is usually an outpatient procedure, though some can elect to stay overnight. The surgery will last between one and two hours, and you will likely receive general anesthesia. During the procedure, the surgeon will make cuts under the breast, under the arms, or around the nipples. After they insert the implants, the surgeon will close the incision with a suture.

Recovery

Although breast augmentation surgery once required a significant amount of recovery time, patients are often able to return to work shortly after the operation. To reduce swelling and pain, you should sleep upright, such as in a recliner, for the first 48 hours after the operation. You should expect to reduce any strenuous activity for two or three weeks after surgery, including limiting the amount of times you raise their hands above your head, which will help reduce swelling. This reduction in activity includes exercising and lifting heavy objects. Generally, after eight weeks, most people will be able to return to normal levels of activity.

Tips for healing

To make things easier on yourself after the operation, you should set aside clothes for the week and perform any necessary housework prior to the surgery. The week after the operation will be the most difficult, so you are encouraged to do the legwork beforehand so you can rest that week. Ice packs and loose-fitting clothing will go a long way in helping to alleviate discomfort from the breast augmentation surgery. Lastly, drink lots of water to stay hydrated during the process.

Make sure that you are well informed about all the aspects of breast augmentation before making the final decision to undergo the procedure. If you’re confident that you can handle each step of the procedure, you’re much more likely to have an easy recovery and be thrilled with your final results.

LIP FILLERS – FIRST TIME GUIDE

So you are doing it! Congratulations. This is a guide for first time lip filler clients on how things work, what to expect, and how to keep them looking good!

First and foremost, everyone is different, different aesthetic goals, different lip structure, different metabolism, different genetics, different risk factors, etc. Do NOT compare yourself to someone else, you are your own lip, your own architecture, your own volume, be proud of your uniqueness! It’s what makes us different.

How long does it take?

– 10 minutes of topical numbing

– 10 minutes of procedure

Is it painful?

– Most clients have minimal discomfort, on a scale of 1-10, they are a 2-3. This is less painful than laser hair-removal, thanks to our unique numbing technique!

How swollen will I be?

– Everyone is different, some people swell up while others do not, swelling depends on multiple factors. Just because you didn’t swell one time, does not mean you will not swell the next time you do a treatment. Sometimes an anti-swelling medication will be given after your injection. I can address this at the time of the visit. Major swelling typically lasts less than 4 days on average, while minor residual swelling can last 14-21 days.

What about bruises?

– Some people are pre-disposed to bruise, avoiding vitamins, alcohol, and ibuprofen type products can decrease the chances of a bruise. Bruising comes in three sizes: Small (like the tip of a needle), medium (like the back of pencil eraser or two pencils erasers), and large (gum-ball sized). Depending on the type of bruise they can last 2-3 days or up to 2 weeks respectively. Arnika pills can be purchased during your visit that can help heal bruises. From time to time a laser can be used to speed up the process if warranted for specific cases.

How long does it last?

– Typically lip injections last 6 months depending on multiple factors including product used. I’ve seen people that have had fillers lasting as little as 2 months and as much as 1 year.

Will I have to keep on doing the procedure?

No! You can stop doing your lips any time and they will slowly return to near normal. The skin will not “stretch out”. Some people do their lips every 4 months to keep them extra juicy, while others elect to do them every 6-8 months. This is a personal preference and will need to be decided along the way.

I don’t know what product to use.

– I typically recommend the juvederm line of products there are two main types for lip volume, juvederm ultra plus xc and juvederm ultra. Depending on your aesthetic goals and lip structure we can select what is right for you. New Generation Juvederms include volbella (typically for older clients) and vollure. These will be discussed in person if necessary for your treatment.

I’ve heard about people having bumps…

– Unfortunately bumps do happen! If a doctor tells you that bumps never happen, be cautious, they do happen but it is not very common. Most bumps are small resolving bruises or some of the product. Usually you can massage them out after 2 weeks time, otherwise small droplet injections of a dissolver can be used in rare-instances to help get rid of these bumps

It looks un-even….

– This is rather common! Not to worry, usually swelling accounts for the majority of this, swelling can be worse on one side than the other, let all the swelling come down (7-14 days in most cases) and then re-evaluate the symmetry, 95% of the time this self resolves.

When can I go back to normal activities?

– After about 24hrs you can resume normal activities

Can I fly after the procedure?

– Yes, but keep in mind that flying makes you dehydrated so try to avoid salty foods and drink tons of water.

When Can I work out?

– You can return to normal activities the next morning, avoid rubbing your lips vigorously, eating very hot foods, and chew carefully the day of the procedure.

What can I do to keep them looking great?

– I recommend a topical vitamin C based cream from skinceuticals for adequate hydration, drink 8 glasses of water a day, and avoid repetitively biting or “mashing” your lips together as this makes the product dissolve faster.

Teosyal, Juvéderm & Restylane – Injectables

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally-occurring carbohydrate polymer that maintains hydration in the skin and other tissue. As the skin ages, it is no longer capable of producing sufficient amounts of hyaluronic acid. With the addition of HA dermal filler injections, the quantity and quality of HA in the skin is boosted to give it a healthier look that lasts long after the injected product is reabsorbed. Teosyal, Juvéderm, and Restylane are injectable competitors that are all hyaluronic acid-based and work in similar ways. Each of these brands offers specialized HA gel products designed for specific areas and corrections.

There is not much variation in cost. They all produce results that last between 6 and 12 months. However, there are some studies to suggest that HA and collagen regeneration prolong the filling effects much longer – up to 18 months!

All these similarities often make it tough for individuals interested in filler treatments to decide on the most suitable one.

It is important to know that although they are very similar, the three brands do offer products with variable cohesivity (firmness) intended for different uses. Juvéderm was the first developed and commercially available HA filler, and its family includes Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus. Their thicker products are popular as lip fillers that hold volume and draw more water than others. However, Teosyal and Redensity are known to last a few months longer on average than Juvéderm Ultra or Ultra Plus.

Breast Augmentation – Don’t Assume Bigger Is Always Better

One of the first things people want to know about getting breast augmentation is what size of implants they should get. In order to answer this question, you need to know a few things about deciding on your ideal breast implant size.

Implants aren’t measured in cup size. You can’t just go in to the plastic surgeon’s office and ask for a set of C cups. First, implants are measured in cubic centimeters or CCs and the number of CCs does not necessarily translate into a certain cup size. Further, since bra sizing is not consistent across brands, this wouldn’t be a reliable way to measure implant sizes anyway.

Proportion is more important than size. When you’re deciding how big you want to go, think about how you want your body to look. Consider the whole picture, rather than just focusing on some ideal size. Going too big can cause breast implant rippling and other undesirable results.

Consider your body type. Your anatomy will help to determine your ideal breast implant size. Your height, weight, shoulder width, chest shape, and other physical factors will affect the way implants look on your body. Thus, an implant size that looks great on someone else might not work for you.

Think about your lifestyle. You should also take your lifestyle into account when deciding on breast implant size. Your job, the kinds of activities you do and even your fashion sense can play a role in determining what’s best for you. If you engage in a lot of highly athletic activities, very large implants might not be the best choice.

 

Breast Augmentation – Preparing Emotionally

Patients seeking breast enhancement for their own personal reasons – and not to fulfill someone else’s desires – also leads to better emotional satisfaction. Every patient will experience some degree of emotional stress and depression after surgery.

Typically, this can reach its peak on Day 5 following surgery – due to very predictable physiological reasons (fluid retention, swelling,etc.). When patients are counseled properly to recognize the onset of this experience, they know it’s just a normal part of the healing process.

HOW FAT TRANSFER BREAST AUGMENTATION WORKS

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular plastic surgeries for women but breast enhancement doesn’t always involve breast implants. Fat transfer breast augmentation is also a safe, effective and natural way to increase breast size, and the procedure is even scarless.

Here are the steps to the fat grafting process.

Fatty tissue is the best material to use for breast augmentation because it eradicates the common concerns with breast implants such as capsular contracture, loss of sensation in your nipples, implant deflation and visible rippling.

The three main steps of fat transfer breast augmentation include:

– The fat cells are removed from a donor location on your body via liposuction.

– The fat is separated from the anesthetic liquid used in liposuction, condensed and readied for the breast augmentation procedure.

– The fat is injected into the breasts to increase breast size.

How Does Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation Work?

In the most simplistic terms, a fat transfer is accomplished by a procedure called liposuction. Fat from one part of your body especially the thighs or stomach or buttocks is removed and then injected into the desired area of the body – not just the breasts. The collected fat naturally contains stem cells which are preserved through the use of very fine, needle-like harvesting cannulas. Between the liposuctioning and the injection, the fat is cleaned and filtered in a sterile closed system. This method improves the chances of fat cell survival and prevents contamination prior to reinjection.

The Pros and Cons of Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

Unlike the breast implant whose size is fixed, a fat transfer augmentation cannot guarantee a specific size outcome.

Pros: Improves self-esteem, It’s all natural, Reduces risk and has a natural feel

Cons: Outcomes can be hard to determine because the volume injected is not always equal to the final, stable size. May require multiple treatments – because of unanticipated fat absorption, the treatment may need to be repeated to create the desired outcome.

This section will give you the information you need to make an informed choice and help you make a number of decisions that have to be made before your surgery.

Should I Have Breast Augmentation Dubai?

is one option that may be available to you if you wish to enhance the appearance of your breasts. A breast revision-augmentation surgery may be appropriate if you have had
a breast augmentation with implants but need to complete, improve upon, or correct a part of that first surgery (called the primary augmentation). Whether breast augmentation is right for you depends on many things; some of them are personal. You should take into account your medical condition, general health, lifestyle, how you feel emotionally, and your breast size and shape before surgery, as well as your hopes for breast size and shape after surgery. You may also wish to consult your family and friends and breast implant support groups, to help you learn about the options and decide. Other women are not satisfied with their implants because of complications, like capsular contracture, rupture, or pain.

Breast Augmentation Dubai With Implants – Understanding The Procedure The surgical procedure for breast augmentation consists of choices you and your surgical team (surgeon(s), nurses, anesthetist, etc.) will make as you plan your surgery. These choices include:

• The surgical setting (where the surgery will be performed, for example, in a hospital, surgery center, or doctor’s office),

• The type of anesthesia used,

• The location of the incisions made to insert the Implants,

• How the Implants will be placed in your breasts
(subglandular or submuscular), and
• Whether your existing skin and/or breast tissue can

SURGICAL SETTING Breast augmentation surgery can be performed in a hospital, private surgery center, clinic, or in the surgeon’s office. Be sure you are comfortable with the location of the surgery before it happens. If you are considering having surgery in a private surgery center or office, you may want to see the area where the surgery will be performed.
ANESTHESIA Breast implant surgery may be performed under general or local anesthesia. All anesthetics carry some risk. Discuss the risks and benefits of the anesthetic your surgeon and anesthetist recommend for you before the surgery.
INCISION SITES Figure 2 shows the three incision sites
(location of cut through which the breast implant is inserted in your body) usually used for breast augmentation surgery:
• Inframammary – the most common incision, made under your breast at the crease where the breast meets the body,
• Periareolar – an incision is made around the nipple, and
• Transaxillary – the incision is made in the armpit, which gives the surgeon easier access to the chest muscle.
When you and your doctor decide what you want your breasts to look like after augmentation, your doctor can help you choose the right implant to get the effect you want. Your body type, height, and weight will be factors your surgeon considers to help you achieve the best result. IMPLANT SIZE, SHAPE AND SURFACE Your surgeon will examine your breast tissue and skin to figure out if you will have enough to cover the implant. It is possible that you
will not have enough skin and/or breast tissue to cover the implant you desire. In this case, you may be offered several choices. Breast implants that are too big for the amount of breast tissue or skin can cause problems: they can actually speed up the effects of gravity; your breasts may droop or sag earlier with implants that are too large. Implants that are too large can also cause implant extrusion, skin wrinkling, infection, and hematoma. You may be able to feel folds on the implant created by it being squeezed too tightly by the surrounding tissue and skin. If you do not have enough skin, and it is stretched too thin over the implant, you may be able to feel or see the edges of the implant under your skin surface after surgery. As shown in Figure 4, the Implants come with either a smooth shell or a textured shell; you should speak with your surgeon to find out whether he or she recommends smooth or textured implants for you.

Changed the doctor last minute simply because he couldn’t do the surgery the way I wanted it to be done. I wanted the implants under the muscle not above so I found doctor vego who introduced me to third option which is Dual Plane. During my researches I read about this technique that is most used by doctors recently especially in Thailand but I didn’t think I would meet a doctor who would be able to do it for me. What I liked about My doctor is that he gave me all the options plus his own opinion and recommendations and left me the space to choose the incision, implant type and size, and implant placement, etc. He is surrounded by strong team including his assistant who was available 24 hrs to answer my questions and worries and planned everything for me as I only had two days between consultation and surgery. Anastasia doctor was super nice and nurses as well. Supported me and helped me with everything as I came by myself to the hospital to do the surgery and you can imagine how scared and lonely felt. Post surgery: no bleeding, no infection, very very light aching compared to other people’s experiences. Recovery was quick without any complications. After two weeks of free follow up I was able to travel for holiday and I resumed work exactly after 20 days considering that it’s a very physically demanding job yet everything went well.

I would like here not only to give a quick review but to share life time experience with Dr. Vigo. I came to know him long years ago when I decided to go for my liposuction operation in Dubai. After doing some research and checking several options, it didn’t take much time to decide that yes he is the one. I did the operation and results were as per my expectation but his post operation professional approach, the time, the caring and attention he gives to his patients were beyond my expectations. Few years later I went through another plastic surgery (Otoplasty) to fix a defect in my ears shape. The results were amazing and far beyond my expectation, Why? Because it was him again who did it. I always say in a city like Dubai, it is never easy to find honest and experienced doctors and then to make up your mind and decide to go for operation or surgery unless you meet a doctor like Dr. Vigo…and if you do, consider yourself lucky, in safe hands and see real natural results afterwards.
